Things To Remember When life gets hard, it can be difficult to see hope and goodness anywhere. At times, you may feel like you are spiraling into an abyss, but no matter how hard things get, there are 7  important truths to keep in mind.

Years ago, I went through something extremely difficult. It was one of the most difficult times in my entire life and I lost everything, including myself. For some time, I thought to myself that I could never find my way out of the dark place I had found myself in. And despite my thoughts, I kept pushing through.

Everyone goes through difficult moments, some much more difficult than others. But no matter how hard life becomes, there is always hope for a fresh start and an opportunity to find your way out. Even better, there is always an opportunity to bounce back better than ever. Don’t believe me?

1. Our darkest moments allow us an opportunity to redefine ourselves.

During a dark time or a dark night of the soul, you will feel lost, desperate, and alone. And in those moments, those deep contemplations, you will find a clear vision for what you want and what you do not want from this life. Use that fire within to fuel you into better times, I promise they are out there. I’m not saying to be fake positive or pretend like everything is okay. Feel your feelings, and find a way forward.

2. Nothing is permanent in life-even darkness and difficulty.

Nothing in life is permanent, and your current situation is not your final destination. That may sound cliché’ but the problems you are focused on and worried about now will be something you will look back on one day and think, “Look how far I’ve come.”

If the big picture becomes too hard to see, take baby steps. Don’t think about all the details beyond your control, the negative thoughts that keep you up at night, or the problems surrounding you. Instead, focus on the room you are in, the situation you are tackling now, and work your way out from there.

4. Life is about the journey, not the destination.

Life is a journey and a musical of sorts. There will be highs, lows, and ebbs and flows. With that being said, if you get so focused on where things are heading, you can get lost and lose sight of the journey in between.

5. Without darkness, we could never appreciate the light.

A wise man once said, if you only ever saw the light, how could you appreciate it? We always take for granted what is always in front of us. We lose motivation and the power of the beauty of happiness when it’s all we ever feel. Life isn’t about being happy all the time, it’s making it through the hurdles and enjoying the light in between.

6. Appreciate the present moment.

This moment will never come again. And there is always something precious about every moment. So don’t let it pass you by! Soon it will just be a memory. Even moments that don’t seem happy can be looked upon as something that you might miss someday. As the country song by Trace Adkins says, “You’re gonna miss this…you’re gonna want this back. You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast….you may not know this now, but you’re gonna miss this…”

7. Let go of desire.

Most people live with an “attached mind.” What this means is that they attach themselves to a desire, and when they don’t get it, their emotions plummet into negativity. Instead, try to practice a “detached mind.” That means that when you want something, you will still be happy whether you get it or not. Your emotions remain happy or neutral.
