Badminton: India’s PV Sindhu registered her win in her group-stage match on Sunday. She defeated Israel’s unseeded Ksenia Polikarpova in straight games — 21-7, 21-10 — in just 29 minutes.
Tennis: Ankita Raina and her women’s double partner Sania Mirza were knocked out in the first round of women’s doubles at the Tokyo Olympics by Ukrainian twins Nadiia and Liudmyla Kichenok. Both have won their first set by holding their opponents to love and were leading 5-2 in the second set and yet went on to lose the match 6-0, 6-7, (8-10).
Men’s Hockey: India suffered a huge loss of 1-7 to Australia on Sunday. India conceded three goals in five minutes during the second quarter but ending their chances at beating the top-ranked team. Earlier, the Indian men’s hockey team had beaten New Zealand 3-2 in their opening match of the Olympics. On Tuesday, the team will take on Spain next.
Table Tennis: In table tennis Indian player Manika Batra came from two games down. But this time, she forced the match into a seventh game to stage a remarkable win over Ukraine’s Margaryta Pesotska. The final score read 4-3 (4-11, 4-11, 11-7, 12-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7) in Manika’s favor.
Sailing: Women’s Laser Radial: Nethra Kumanan finished 27th at the end of 2 races and failed to qualify for the medal race.
Rowing: Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh qualified for the repêchage semifinal A/B.
Swimming: Women’s 100m backstroke: Maana Patel finishes 39th overall after clocking 1:05.20 in Heat 1.
Men’s 100m backstroke: Srihari Nataraj finishes 27th overall after clocking 54.21s in Heat 3.
